FIREFIGHTER ENTRY LEVEL (NON-CERTIFIED)
No former Firefighting experience required!
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
FIREFIGHTER RECRUIT (CERTIFIED)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Firefighter II certification meeting National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firefighter II standards.
- Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
FIREFIGHTER II (EMT)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Firefighter I with GCFD or lateral transfers from an outside agency that meet the position requirements may be hired in at the rank of Firefighter II.
- One (1) year of verifiable experience as a Firefighter I.
- International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro-Board Firefighter II certification meeting National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firefighter II standards.
- Basic Auto Extrication, Haz-Mat Operations.
- Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
FIREFIGHTER III (EMT)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Firefighter II with GCFD or lateral transfers from an outside agency that meet the position requirements may be hired in at the rank of Firefighter III.
- Two (2) years of verifiable experience as a Firefighter II.
- International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro-Board Firefighter II certification meeting National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firefighter II standards.
- Current CPR and AED certifications, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician credentials as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT, AEMT, Paramedic).
- SCFA NIMS ICS or a NFA course meeting NIMS ICS (100, 200 & 700).
- SCFA EVDT Pump Operations and Basic Aerial Operations class or equivalent Pro-Board or IFSAC certification.
-Valid South Carolina Class E Driver's License or optional Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Certifications from the State of South Carolina and/or equivalent program in the following areas:
- SCFA 40hrs Haz-Mat Technician certification
- Terrorism Awareness certification
- Water Rescue Operation certification
- Basic Rope Operation certification
- High Angle Operations certification
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A RECRUITMENT CYCLE
- Applications accepted & reviewed by GCFD
- Selected candidates are invited for on-site testing

This video gives step-by-step instructions on how to perform the Greenville City Fire Department's Physical Agility Test. This test is to insure that possible new hires are physically able to perform essential job tasks at emergency incidents. No firefighting experience is necessary to complete this test.
